Now, most of us would think that if once you have purchased a particular mice exterminating or catching item, you are already assured that you will get right into the problem's solution. However, that is not necessarily so. There are some considerations that you have to comprehend first so that you will be able to effectively implement any method. One of them is the one discussed in the previous article, which are tips on how to effectively hone your instinctive and intuitive nature to adapt into mice MO's and the other is the full assessment of the methods being used. The underscoring of the certain advantages and disadvantages of a device or method to know whether you can be fully entrusting to it or if you can really utilize it at a given time.

Moreover, the knowledge on a device or method's pros and cons will thoroughly help you in assessing situations wherein you will be able to know which method or device to apply at the moment. The learning curve for this will only take you about 2-4 weeks (according to my personal experience), so you must not worry about having to undergo longer periods of time learning.

Here are the certain pros and cons of the most prominent methods being used to catch or exterminate mice:

1. MOUSE TRAPS

Pros

Mice traps are perhaps the most commonly used counter pest mice mechanism of them all probably because its efficiency and effectiveness have been proven over the years making them reliable instruments of mice destruction. Apart from that, they are also very cost efficient as one mice trap would actually only cost around less than a dollar each. You can practically purchase a dozen of them without worrying much on how much you would have already spent and reassured of the plausible positive results granting that you can now cover every possible mice waypoint with a trap. On top of that, they are not as messy as having rodenticides which would kill mice in remotely secluded areas. You can easily dispose of your catch right away to your convenience.

Cons

Despite its proven effectiveness it also has its own disadvantages. Mice traps wouldn’t work as efficiently as it should when you’re only using one. Even if you are using a multiple mice trap (one that catches more than just one mouse in a single trap), it is still not as effective as having a dozen or relatively more. This is because if you have bought only one trap, it wouldn’t be able to effectively cover the entire foraging area and way points of the inhabiting mice in your house. Especially if you have a serious mice infestation going on, you would really have to purchase probably even more than a dozen mouse traps. Accumulated would make you worry a little about the expenses. But that's not really the inconvenient part. It is when you would have to place them all around the house to ensure the catch. Having them around may endanger young toddlers who would mistake the traps as toys. Plus of course they're messy to look at in different parts of the house. Another disadvantage of mice traps is that you would have to monitor them as much as daily if possible to ensure that trapped mouse won't die in the traps. Otherwise, dead mouse stench will hover dreadfully after and you have a bit of a concern at hand.

2. RODENTICIDES

Pros

Undoubtedly, they are effective vermin slayers. A single pellet or grain dose of these poisons will lead to certain death to any bothersome pest mice. If placed on a susceptible location, no mice will be able to resist the allure of their last meal.

Cons

Well they are poisonous. You can already imagine what dangers it can cause to anyone or anything that would accidentally ingest it. Using rodenticides around the house will have to entail extra precautionary measures to make sure that it won't find its way to the wrong hands or in this case, the wrong stomach. Another problem with rodenticides is that unless if the kill works instantly as soon as the pellet poison are ingested, the chances of mice dying in remotely secluded areas after ingesting the poison is high. That means, you may not be able to locate the pests death place as easily. There's a chance that the poisoned mouse will be able to back to their hiding places first and then die there leaving the mess a bit inaccessible for you.

3. PETS

Pros

They are very cute and cuddly to have around, that's one advantage of having pets as a pest mice control method. They are also likely un-messy methods of taking care of the vermin as the pest would probably find their eternal rest on your pet's stomach. Barn Owls, Cats and even Dogs are certain predators of mice and the chances of munching those pests down to their tracts are quite high.

Cons

The problem is when your pets are full. If they are full because you have just made them eat their regular pet food, they wouldn't find roaming pest mice that appetizing as they are when your pet's hungry. Chances they may either just leave the pest be or toy with them to death but leaving their carcass littered anywhere. Of course pets are a bit mindless about your sanitary concerns unless if they are trained to do so. But that would entail quite some time for your pets to finally get around. Another issue when it comes to pets is the consistent sustenance and maintenance you would have to come by. Which should be, additional expenditures.

Mice Control Methods

Effective Unconventional Methods for Pest Mice Control

Often mice are pretty cunning when it comes to traps being placed for them. Baits don't even work sometimes because of their surprisingly keen intuitive instincts making them more elusive than any other pets that could inhabit a household. That's why there is an imperative cause for you to continuously innovate the aspects of a trap or the methods you are employ in order to catch mice. You have to continuously search for new and more potent baits that mice will inevitably be attracted and relocate your snap traps from time to time when you will discover that your traps aren't working anymore at their former locations. Therefore it is also very important that you employ critical thinking and analysis as such skills will really help you out in effectively ensnaring mice wherever they may be able to efficiently hide. If you do not have such skills, then you may just end up investing financially over things you assume to work but will not work because you failed to critically assess their functionality. You have to understand that any trap or method to catch mice is not all effective by itself. It needs to be placed on the most conducive locations as possible and have the most attractive baits to lure mice in and it's your job to consider and apply these factors.

As your search goes on for the most effective phase of mouse-trapping, you may come across a variety of options along the way. Most of them are conventional and some are a bit of outside the box as one might say. You may choose to apply the conventional methods of trapping mice, knowing that over time they have already proven their efficiency and effectiveness. The trust brought about by its popularity over the years will assure you of quality output making you less worried about it failing in its cause. However, such devices will certain natural disadvantages or inefficiencies and having been so engrossed with the fact that it's been proven to be effective over time will make you overlook of these flaws. Thus, it would make you less innovative and resourceful in mice catching by becoming overly dependent in the archaic devices you have employed. Still, this should not be so; one must always continuously search for newer ways, maybe even unconventional, unorthodox means.

Truth be said, there are many varieties of options out there when it comes to catching pest mice and you'll be surprise how some of them seems so unexpected. But they are just actually products of some individuals' ability to put their minds into good work and now quite a number of people are using it already, making it more popular as time goes by.

You may become quite doubtful at first about its effectiveness but later on, once you will get to experience firsthand the output of these unconventional means for catching mice, you will be impressed how quickly they can satisfy your desired outcomes. Here are some of the "not-so" conventional means introduced to the realms of mice hunting:

1. Pet Dog
Contrary to popular belief, dogs are more efficient mice catcher than cats. Considering the weight and size of the animal and its difference to a cat, you can easily deduce why it can kill more effectively than the latter. There is even one breed of dogs called "rat terriers" because of their surprisingly prominent ability to spot mice anywhere and does them in for good. Unlike their feline counterparts, dogs don't play around their mice prey before killing them. Especially when agitated (as they all normally do when they see something small skirmishing their territory), they would just pounce their way to their target's death. However, it can't be told whether the dog will eat the mice for a meal so there is a chance that the dead mice carcass will be anywhere. Make sure by then that you check on places in the house to make sure there aren't any rotten mice corpses stanching away.

2. Peppermint Oil
Well, a lot of people may find peppermint oil as something exotically pleasing to the olfactory senses. As even sometimes it is used to add aroma to some delicacy in order to grant more attraction to its tasters. However, this doesn't go the same way for mice. Mice hate the scent of peppermint oil. They hate it so much that they shun away from it. What you can do is to put some peppermint oil on a dry cotton ball (make sure that it is dry of course, otherwise it will dilute the strength of the peppermint scent) and place it in locations where mice in the house will likely to stride. Place it as well on locations wherein mice are most likely to enter your premises. That way, you will be dissuading those mice away from ever infiltrating your household. This works as a repellent of course. You may not be able to use it against the mice that are already in the house as placing them in the exits of their litters may cause the mice to avoid the particular exits where the peppermint oil scent is and will most likely drill another hole for exits. This will cause more damage in your properties rather than having them fixed by getting rid of the pest. You may use them however as an extension to your entire pest mice control scheme. Place them after you have successfully driven all the pest mice away from your house so that they may never come back anymore.

3. Soda
Humans may like drinking soda to quench their droughts away. However, it may prove to be quite harmful if extensively being ingested due to carbonation factors that could take toll anytime. But with mice, a sip from a Soda means inevitable death. The carbonation will do them in, however, not instantly. So you may have to search the premises again for dead ones. Ironically though, even if Soda can really kill the pests, they really like it. That's why Soda is an ideal bait and trap method for pest mice and rodenticide at the same time.

4. Vitamin D Trap
This is really a quizzer. Who would have thought that Vitamin D, a supplementary vitamin intake essential for your bones and teeth are poisonous to pest mice? However, according to research and studies, mice are Vitamin D intolerant. An ingestion of vitamin D will precipitously disrupt their metabolism, (very much like what happens to lactose intolerant people who just drank milk but worse) and thus making them feel very awful later. In order to effective use Vitamin D as vermin poison, crush a tablet and mix it with peanut butter or cheese and then of course place it near suspected mice locations. A mouse will have to 2 days tops until the supplement kills it. However, even if Vitamin D is a natural human supplement, precautionary measures should still be observed.

5. Chocolate Plaster of Paris

Well you know what plasters are. You may think what would attract mice to plasters to kill themselves? Of course, plasters are not your main mice dish. It will be the chocolate that you will imbue with the plasters which make it attractive to mice. Chocolates have the effect of making mice thirsty. Therefore, once the mice ingest the chocolate imbued plasters of Paris, they will ferret for water outside of their litters. And then, the solidifying of the plaster in their tract will kill them. The best thing about this poisonous bait is that there's a high chance that the targeted mice will not die inside remotely secluded places. As they would have to go out and search for water, they will most likely die near the water source. Plaster of Paris quickly crystallizes into a hard mass of Gypsum once hydrated. Imagine, mixing cement into your stomach.
